What is 'Holnemvolt Park'?
Holnemvolt Park ('Once Upon a Time Park') is the new family leisure park of the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden, which was opened on 29th April 2014. Besides the various exotic and local mammal and bird species (meerkat, wild boar, fallow deer, ostrich, emu, flamingo), the majority of indigenous and exotic domestic animals (hucul pony, shire horse, Haflinger horse, miniature horse, Bactrian camel, llama, alpaca, Hungarian spotted cattle, Jersey cattle, dwarf zebu, pygmy goat, Cameroon sheep, Gyimes racka sheep, Jacob sheep, guinea pig) are displayed in the Park, which also has various animal petting sites.
Besides presenting the various species the area also features entertainment rides. Some of these (the "hundred year-old" carousel, the cave train, the roller coaster, the fairy tale boat, the enchanted castle and the funny jungle ride) have been taken over by the Zoo from the heritage of the Amusement Park (Vidámpark).
