The Butterfly Garden is open now August 8, 2018
The Butterfly Garden, behind the historic Palm House (America Tropicana), is a seasonal display: it is open to the public between the end of May and September, when nights start to become cool. The area, covering 260 square metres, provides 1,200 cubic metres of space for several hundred specimens of 25 tropical butterfly species. Some of the species on display are indigenous to Central and South America, and some are from South-East Asia.
The Butterfly Garden is designed to allow visitors to mingle with the butterflies; in this way, they can observe them from really close up, for example while they are flying or feeding. It is needless to say that butterflies are not to be touched, since it is well known how fragile they are.
