BABY LISIMBA
Our little southern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum) baby boy born October 2008 was given the name Lisimba by visitors who have participated in the zoo’s voting game.

LisimbaLisimba gained more than 50 kilograms since birth and as special veterinary restrictions have come to end, zoo guests now easily catch sight of him indoors of the newly built Savanna enclosure. It is a funny coincidence that visitors have chosen a name very much similar to that of the baby’s father’s. As mentioned earlier, the little rhino’s mom was conceived through artificial insemination by use of frozen sperms of a male rhinoceros from Colchester Zoo (U.K.) called Simba. Both names Lisimba and Simba mean lion. Although the weather is cold and keepers are still very cautious, the very active little boy and mom may get a 10-20 minutes of short walk outdoors. During this time visitors may observe how playful Lisimba is.
