Golo’s family can now occupy a “playground” ten times larger than before, while Chuij and friends may discover the well planned orangutan-forest. Both enclosures give a good example of environmental enrichment.
When visiting Budapest Zoo during the reconstruction works, Jane Goodall, the world-famous primatologist also spoke approvingly of our efforts to create a larger and more exciting living space to our gorillas and orangutans. Specialty of the Apes’ House is its tube-like connection to the inside of the Big Rock, with a peculiar view on the Gorilla Park. The renovation of the Big Rock, in relation to the renewal of the Apes’ enclosures is also a great development in the history of the zoo. As a result to this, visitors get to walk on the rocks for the first time since World War II.
