Our new female Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) has nicely adopted itself to its new environment at the Apes’ house.
Seven years old N’yaounda has arrived from Arnhem Zoo in the Netherlands and she is the youngest among our gorillas. The goal of her transfer was not only to expand the family, but also to increase the possibility of further breeding successes of the gorillas in Budapest Zoo, as the only zoo in Hungary where this species can be found. The recently renovated huge Gorilla Park provides plenty of space to make Golo, the dominant male feel comfortable enough to approach the ‘girls’. Together with N’yaounda there are now five gorillas living in Budapest Zoo.
