Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden

The New Savanna Enclosure finally introduced to the public
2008. May 28.
Since 1912 no such large “zoo-establishment” has been handed over to the visitors. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held with participation of the Mayor of Budapest, Mr. Gábor Demszky and the director of Budapest Zoo, Mr. Miklós Persányi.
Reconstruction of the area lasted almost 2 years. New animal species never before seen in Hungary combined with a spectacular collection of African art works and handicrafts - among them a special memorial display of Kálmán Kittenberger, the famous Hungarian traveler and hunter - make the exhibit more complex. A few of the species shown: giraffes, mhorr’s gazelles, guineafowls, antelopes, meerkats, white rhinos, reptiles, insects and other arthropods.
