Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden

Time to head to Budapest Zoo on Wednesday nights, and enjoy the hottest summer concert series around! With the purchase of a concert ticket at the zoo-cashier, you may enjoy a special musical style, including world, folk, jazz and classical. The main gate opens at 19.00 p.m. Performances begin at 20.30 p.m. The Wild Summer Nights Concert Series is a guaranteed good time for both music and zoo fans.
2008. March 07.
Lulu, a 27-year-old southern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum), gave birth to rhinoceros calf at the Budapest Zoo January 23, 2007.

2008. July 01.
After a two-years-long cut, Budapest Zoo proudly presents its three Brown Bears (two Syrian Brown Bears and one Eurasian Brown Bear) and their newly renovated, exciting cave-like enclosures surrounding the Great Rock area.

2008. June 05.
Good weather made it possible for zoo keepers to open the butterfly exhibit earlier than usual. This summer-exhibit has the area of 260 m2, with 1200 m3 of airspace to provide plenty of room for the 600 brightly colored butterflies of 45 tropical species to “fly around”.

Since 1912 no such large “zoo-establishment” has been handed over to the visitors. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held with participation of the Mayor of Budapest, Mr. Gábor Demszky and the director of Budapest Zoo, Mr. Miklós Persányi.

Golo’s family can now occupy a “playground” ten times larger than before, while Chuij and friends may discover the well planned orangutan-forest. Both enclosures give a good example of environmental enrichment.

Hungary’s first Komodo dragon has arrived from Chester Zoo on Saint George’s Day. Such a species has never been shown to the public before. Because of this, Budapest Zoo visitors have awaited the dragon with lots of curiosity.

After taking 50 meters walk from the giraffes’ house to the new exhibit, Layla and parents, Lulu and Easyboy can now experience a modern and comfortable home at the nearly finished Savanna Park.

2006. April 27.
Restoration works on the zoo's Great Rock began in the past days. The reconstruction of the almost 100 years old cement concrete artificial rock is expected to be completed by September 2007.
